Pt/CeO2 with residual chloride as reusable soft Lewis acid catalysts: Application to highly efficient isomerization of allylic esters

Heterogeneous acid and base catalysts play a crucial role in many important chemical processes. Hard Lewis Brønsted like silica-alumina zeolites have been widely applied numerous reactions; however, developing reusable active soft remain challenge. Herein, we demonstrate for the first time that highly dispersed supported platinum catalyst can act as heterogeneous acid. High turnover numbers reusability were observed isomerization of allylic esters under solvent-free conditions. Moreover, as-prepared are characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) absorption fine structure (XAFS), revealing Pt clusters with Pt–Cl bonds key high activity. The residual chloride anion enhances acidity metal center thus improves catalytic Simultaneously, activity Pt/CeO2 mechanism also proved density functional theory (DFT) calculations based on model reaction.
